PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTATION: APPLY THE MOIST TIP TO THE WART FOR ONE TO TWO MINUTES. THE TREATENT MAY BE REPEATED AFTER 24 HOURS TO A MAXIMUM OF THREE TREATMENTS ONLY.
CAUSTIC PENCILS ARE DANGEROUS AND BRITTLE.
They burn the skin and many other surfaces, and must be handled with care and be kept away from children. They also stain, and the stains persist for some time. Because the caustic is brittle, take particular care not to break the point by dropping or jarring the case.
To Use – Protect the skin with a little vaseline applied around the wart. Hold the pencil by the plastic holder and PULL the cap off. It must not be unscrewed, as this will loosen the caustic point itself. Moisten the point before use by dipping only the tip in water – DO NOT PUT CASE IN WATER – and gently shaking off any excess onto a tissue or kitchen roll, which should then be discarded in the dustbin. It is very important not to allow drips to settle on any surface as they will stain. Do not hold under a running tap. On no account must the pencil be licked or held other than by the plastic case. GENTLY, TO AVOID BREAKING THE CAUSTIC, apply the moist tip to the wart for one to two minutes; under no circumstances should this be exceeded without reference to a registered medical practitioner. Do not touch any other part of the body, clothing or furnishings with the tip. After application, cover the area with a clean, dry dressing. Using another tissue, dry the tip and discard the tissue in the dustbin. The treatment may be repeated after 24 hours to a maximum of three treatments only. If the skin is not healing satisfactorily at the end of a week, consult a doctor. Caustics must not be applied near the eye or other sensitive parts of the body. This toughened silver nitrate Caustic Pencil is quite different from a Styptic Pencil and should never be used to control bleeding. CONTRAINDICATIONS , WARNINGS ETC.
A Caustic Pencil should be used under medical supervision. Continued application to mucous membranes and open wounds leads to argyria, a bluish-black discolouration of the skin due to deposition of granules of silver compound in the connective tissues. The condition persists indefinitely or disappears only very slowly.
Poisoning by oral ingestion is unlikely with the quantities involved, but treatment for poisoning should be with repeated stomach washouts with 1% Sodium Chloride solution, followed by a solution of 30 grammes of Sodium Sulphate in 250ml water, to be allowed to remain in the stomach. Further supportive treatment should be directed at the relief of pain and special attention paid to renal function and to fluid balance. Medical professionals (only) using product for non-wart applications should obtain SPC from the manufacturer. PHARMACEUTICAL PRECAUTIONS
